The Olympic Dream

Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.
— Wilma Rudolph, U.S. gold medalist

It is a running joke in my family that every two years I come out of sport retirement. There is just something about the Olympics that has me lacing up my running shoes and rewriting my yearly goals! This year is no different and I expect it will be this way until the day that I die...

The Olympic Games amaze me. For two weeks, there is peace in the world as we all cheer for our country and the remarkable athletes sent to represent us. The athletes work nearly their entire lives, train hours a day, suffer injuries, miss out on friends, family, school, and all for a mere chance at an Olympic experience. There is no money, little notoriety, and an incredible amount of sacrifice.

We all have the potential to be great. Are your dreams big enough? What are you willing to sacrifice? If you need some motivation, turn on the TV and watch the Olympians go for the gold! The Olympic dream is inspiration at its finest.
